Return policies… revisited.

Okay I’ve only just started blogging again and already I’ve been slacking off… what a bum I am.

So on Thursday I decided I would make beef stew and so after work I went to the local grocery store (closest one happens to be Sweet Bay -formally known as Kash n Karry-). I was really shocked to find the place packed with people.

Which leads me to another amusing thought. Why is it that shopping stores in ghetto areas always have more business then middle-high class shopping stores areas? I mean prices are the same. Maybe a difference of a couple of cents, but really not that big of a difference. And yet the local Winn-Dixie and even Wal-Mart that we have thats in the ‘ghetto’ part of town is ALWAYS packed. Check out lines at these stores require at leaset a 15 min wait. Then in contrast, if we drive down further into the nicer parts of Tampa, there’s this other Winn-Dixie branche that NEVER has any business. The first time I walked in there, I though the place was closing down or something to that effect! Why is that? So silly.

Anyway, back to the main topic. So I grabbed all the things that I needed for the beef stew I was planning on making for dinner and headed for the long wait in the lines. I felt really akward standing there becuae I just happen to be surrounded by a wailing baby and some really ghetto family (wouldn’t have been surprised if they were missing a couple of teeth or something). I decided to called a friend on my cell to chat with her while I waited in line. Our convo got really good so I didn’t bother to hang up as I was paying for my food.

Then when I was loading the bags into my car I was wondering in the back of my mind how did these boys manage to fit all that I’ve bought into 2 bags? I found out when I got home it was becaue they’d totally forgotten to put a 3rd (or even 4th) bag in my shopping cart. I was SO angry at the moment. What utter incompetence. It’s not like the kid was bagging more then on person’s groceries. And that’s ALL he has to do, (and what crappy his bagging was) and he still managed to ‘forget’ to put some of my groceries in my cart. What utter incompetence.

To make a long story short, I couldn’t make my stew that night and at first I was just going to say ’screw it, I’ll just never go back to that store again.’ But the more I thought about it the more pissed I got, so the next day (Friday), I went back to the store and took up the issue at their Customer Service desk. The girl at the desk looked about as excited to be there as a bump on a pickle. She tells me to go get the things that I missed and to come back with the items. So I go around and re-gather the things and was wondering ‘what would happend if I grabbed another slab of beef? Even though my beef was in the bags I did manage to take home, however, I wonder if she’d know or cared?’ But being a honest stupid person that I am, I just grabbed what I was really missing. When I came back to the counter, all the girl did was bag up my things and say ‘thanks you have a nice day.’

. . .

She didn’t even check to see if the things I grabbed was on the list. WTF? I felt indigent and stupid at the same time. This means, I could’ve grabbed another $12 slab of meat for free! Ugh…
